Truth, Justice And Hollywood Weasels!

by Michael Graham June 30, 2006 @ 17:42
Just in time for Independence Day weekend, it's Superman Returns, featuring the famous line "Truth, justice and the...REWRITE!"

That's right: the screenwriters of the new Superman pix "never considered" using the phrase "the American way" in their film. Why? Because it would "taint" Superman to link him to American values.

"We were always hesitant to include the term 'American way' because the meaning of that today is somewhat uncertain," says screenwriter Michael Dougherty. "The ideal hasn't changed. I think when people say 'American way,' they're actually talking about what the 'American way' meant back in the '40s and '50s, which was something more noble and idealistic."

As opposed to today, when the phrase would be something embarrassing and demeaning.

Thanks, Superman.

Here's a letter from a listener who doesn't agree:

Who in his or her right mind would care one way or the other about a stupid and irrelevant comic character.

As to america it used a fair and decent place. Now it is run by an outright liar and a murderous terrorist in its own right.

If it were up to all the conservatives this would be just another hell hole. .well it has become that in the last few years.

I am so happy that we will shortly be leaving this ugly state for Cairo which is a beautiful place to live, study and rear children. It is a place of morals and great ideology. One can not be free in this part of the world any longer. Thank all that is beneficent we will have a good life not one of living under a dictator.(!!! he obviously doesn't know what the heck is going on in Egypt at the moment. mg)

So you want to live under the american way....good when they come after you remember that you are nothing more than an obviously depraved american having gotten that way from a fundamentalist background.

By the way Hollywood is not un american nor any other appellation you wish to apply to them. I can hardly wait until you people vote in the fall and the real americans take all of you and put you in jail where you belong.

May the world court have the opportunity to prosecute those in America who forced this war against millions of innocents. america is the laughing stock of the people of this world.

Captain Courageous Runs For Governor!

by Michael Graham June 29, 2006 @ 23:37

You've got to love the strong leadership of Duval "77 Acres And A Mercedes" Patrick. Here he is, boldly speaking out on whether the legislature should let the citizens of Massachusetts vote on the legal definition of a marriage:
"I'm not in the Legislature but I wish they wouldn't" vote on the matter, Patrick said. "I think we've had enough of this debate. I've been married for 22 years in a straight marriage; there's nothing about gay marriage that threatens my marriage." When pressed, Patrick added, "I'm going to let the Legislature run the Legislature."
Now THAT'S bold leadership for Massachusetts. Duval Patrick's supporters--particularly in the gay and lesbian community--must be so proud.
WAIT!!! WHIPLASH ALERT!
According to the same Boston Globe story, in the same Democratic debate Duval "I'm not going to run the legislature" urged the legislature to vote to repeal a 1913 law the prevents same-sex couples who reside in other states from marrying in Massachusetts.
Why, Mr. Patrick, are you willing to push the legislature on one vote, but not the other? Could it be that opposing the democratic process on same-sex marriage is wrong, you know it's wrong, but you're afraid of losing the votes of angry, irrational activist gay voters?
Like I said: That's courage.

Pelosi: Al Qaeda Terrorists Deserve Constitutional Protection

by Michael Graham June 29, 2006 @ 15:46
Before anyone is fooled into believing today's liberal whackjob ruling on behalf of Al Qaeda detainees will help the Democrats win elections, you need to read House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi's reaction:

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today
following the United States Supreme Court decision that trying Guantanamo
detainees before military commissions violates U.S. law and the Geneva
Conventions:

“Today’s Supreme Court decision reaffirms the American
ideal that all are entitled to the basic guarantees of our justice system. This
is a triumph for the rule of law.

“The rights ofdue process are among
our most cherished liberties, and today’s decision is a rebuke of the Bush
Administration’s detainee policiesand a reminder of our responsibility to
protect both the American people and our Constitutional rights. We cannot allow
the values on which our country was founded to become a casualty in the war on
terrorism.”

Well, Nancy, if all are entitled to the rights of citizens--including murderous Islamist terrorists--then I guess being a citizen just doesn't count for much, does it?

More Love From The Religion Of Peace

by Michael Graham June 28, 2006 @ 21:41

This is the latest recipient of the kind of compassion so often demonstrated by Arab Muslims towards Jews these days. Eliyahu Asheri, an 18-year-old kid, was murdered by Palestinians because, well, ah...because they could. They kidnapped him, dragged him away from his home and eventually executed him, not for DWB (Driving While Black) but rather BWJ. Breathing While Jewish.

Believe it or not, the folks at Harvard think Eliyahu's killers are the "victims."

Why It Sucks To Be Israel

by Michael Graham June 28, 2006 @ 21:16
The Israeli Army has invaded Gaza in an attempt to rescue one of its soldiers kidnapped from within Israel by Palestinian terrorists. The AP is reporting that Israel is currently detaining some Hamas officials because

Israel blames Hamas for the attack Sunday in which two soldiers were killed and
a third captured when militants tunneled under the border and attacked an army
post, setting off the invasion.

"Israel blames Hamas?" So says the AP. Just Israel, making an accusation. It's "He Said, She Said," is that right, Associated Press?

Hmmm....Let's check the AP reporting from three days ago:

Three militant groups, including the armed wing of the ruling Hamas movement, claimed responsibility for the attack. The two other groups involved were the popular resistance committees, an umbrella grouping of radical militants, and a hitherto little-known organization called
'The Islamic Army.' Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said the assault was 'a natural attack on the Israeli occupation crimes.'

OK, so is it Israel blaming Hamas, or is it Hamas blaming Hamas? AP reports, you decide.

Because, sadly, the AP can't decide for themselves.

Al Gore, Almost Right?

by Michael Graham June 27, 2006 @ 13:47
That's the kindest thing that Reason magazine's Ronald Bailey can say about Gore's flawed film:

As further evidence of warming, Gore notes that permafrost is melting in parts of Alaska and Siberia. The temperatures in central Siberia are thought to have increased by 3 degrees Celsius over the past 40 years. This not only causes engineering and infrastructure problems, but might also release even more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere as once frozen organic matter begins to decompose. But is this warming unprecedented? Perhaps not.

A Russian study in 2004 found that the average temperatures in Siberia during the Holocene Climatic Optimum around 6000 years ago warmed up by 3 to 9 degrees celcius in the winter, and by 2 to 6 degrees celcius in the summer. Due to changes in the earth's orbit which affect how much sunlight reaches the surface, pretty much the entire Arctic was warmer than now 6000 years ago. [emphasis added].

But wait! How could the Arctic have been so warm 6,000 years before Henry Ford cursed us with the automobile? Before we started cranking up our evil air conditioners? Even before...HALIBURTON? If it's true that the earth experienced major periods of warming without man in the past, then it would be possible that the earth is warming today without our help.

Please, Al, tell me it's not true!
